What is the story?

 It is an arresting anecdote. I would compare it to the act of  love making, which keeps you engaged and gives you enjoyment throughout but the best part is the climax.  At its simplest, "The Ferret " consists of a character (the hero) who wants something badly, a mysterious heroine and an adversary (the obstacle) who is trying equally hard to prevent the hero from getting what he wants. In each scene, the hero tries to attack his problem in a new way but is lost & panic striken of  the adversary . It can be and deserves to be reread.
